Speculation

1986 "Mystery Man" Who is He/She Craig Phillips? What's Up with Jetta??//Jetta vs. Graphix!! Do The Stingers Fit In ?? Factory Sealed Bag Fashions
The pages is just speculation, it is not meant to be taken as fact. Some facts are used, but the facts used may not support the view point on this page. This page is just for fun, and may become obsolete as we found out more of what Hasbro/Sunbow was working on.

Do The Stingers Fit In ??

Riot
Rapture
Minx

1986 - pinks, blues or purples fashions with silvers and whites
Some people don't like the Stingers because they don't "fit in". Most Jem fans love the Holograms and Misfits with their outrageous hair color and bright fashions. So when Hasbro developed a band that had blonde hair and only black and yellow colors for their fashions, it was hard for many people to take. I have to admit it would have been a big change from all those bright colors.
But if you remember correctly the Holograms did not have those bright colors -- the 1986 Holograms were thematic almost like the Stingers. The Holograms had pink, blue or purple fashions with silvers and whites. Even Stormer and Pizzazz had a theme with their moron fashions and zebra prints. Roxy does not quite fit into their theme, but she does seem to belong with the rest of the Misfits.

1987 - how many colors can we use?
Yes, all the dolls did have different hair colors in 1986 -- but in 1987 the fashions had no bounds, there didn't seem to be a theme to the colors or styles used.
It's almost like Hasbro's fashion design for 1987 was to make everyone look like they don't fit in with anyone else. The Holograms new brighter fashions lost any cohesiveness that the 1986 stage fashions had.
Video and Danse doll fashions do seem to fit in with the new 1987 Holograms, but Raya is a little out of place with the use of pattern. There is no other pattern in the Holograms fashions except for a minor star pattern on Danse's Jacket.

Jetta - white/silver like 1986 Holograms
In 1987, Jetta doesn't seem to fit in with the Misfits either, but she fit in with the black and another color of the Stingers that where to be released the next year. Jetta also fits into the color and silver and/or white used in the 1986 Holograms. She is the link between the 1986 Holograms and the Stingers for 1988.
Jetta, basically the original concept for Clash and the original concept for Video (sliver hair) both fit in will with the 1986 Holograms. Even the prototype of Danse from the French 1987 Hasbro Toy Catalog fits into the original look of the Holograms from 1986.

Fabric and Style

Now the design of the Stinger fashion fit into the line perfectly, with the use of fabric and style.

  • Riot's fashions is basically a male version of Kimber's fashion.
  • Rapture's fashion is a new style of Shana's original 1986 dress with a little flavor was used in the 1987 On Stage Fashions.
  • Minx's fashion is similar to Danse's fashion expect with no jacket.

The Stingers blonde hair and mostly black fashions also fit into what was going on with some of the pop singers that where big in 1988.

  • Debbie Gibson had a new look in 1988, she finally was developing a style, and it was black with her blonde hair.
  • Kylie Minogue was doing the Locomotion in black with blonde hair in 1988 too.
  • By that time, Madonna was on her 6th year of supporting the blonde hair, with mostly black fashions.

So besides fitting in with Jem's world, the Stingers would have fit into the American Top 40 Pop scene in 1988.
