  • "Jem & the Holograms" is not on the list of new programming.

Jem et les Hologrammes (France) - All three sets are out, but "Father's Day" is not included.

Updated: June 20, 2010

Rumor: Hasbro revealed prototypes of dolls to Investors during the Fall 2009 Investor Day -- for the new cartoon.

  • Jem was not mentioned during the web cast portion.
  • Hasbro stated some titles were not going to be talked about to prevent competition, but the investors would see them in development during the work through of Hasbro.

So, it could be true -- but no offical word.

It seems at the same time Hasbro added a new JEM™ for Entertainment Services, they also registered a few JEM URL's. Feb. 25, 2008 Hasbro registered jemmovie.com and jemandthehologramsmovie.com.
Thanks Dragonielle from jemcon.org for this information.

Updated: Aug 24, 2009

Hasbro was developing a New JEM line. The project was canceled (I would assume for the Pussycat Dolls dolls, 2006 - which was also canceled) There was rumored that Hasbro is still planning for a 2007-2008. But that seems to be just a rumor, it sounds like Jem is not in development at the moment.

There was no sign of Jem at the 2007 Toy Fair. So more then likely Jem will not be back for 2007. But Hasbro is still updating the trademarks, for dolls, books, etc. With any luck, we well see something by 2011 for Jem's 25th Anniversary.

JEM vs. Darci (Kenner 1979-1981)

I found out that one of the artists that worked on Darci for Kenner freelanced for Hasbro to create the Jem doll molds. It looks like Hasbro choose the Darci artist because they liked Darci, but made Jem a little more polished. The Jem molds have softer features then Darci. Jem dolls ears are smaller. Jem dolls noses are also smaller, flatter, and more rounded. Some of the wax head molds are a cross between produced Jem and Darci features.
Darci

Aja and 2nd year Jem's head mold are similar to Darci.

The bodies, legs, hands and fashions are similar in may ways.

Darci has two best friends Dana and Erica. While Jem/Jerrica has two best friend's Shana and Aja.

Dana ... Shana
Erica ... Jerrica
hum ...

Darci also came with red and brunette hair

Dana

The Kimber, Roxy and Video head mold seem similar to Dana, But its not exactly the same.

Dana's nose is wider, longer and more triangular in shape. Dana's head mold does have some similarities to the Shana, Stormer, and Synergy head mold too ... but much closer to the Kimber, Roxy and Video head mold.

Erica

The Danse, Jetta and Clash head mold is similar to Erica, but its not exactly the same either.

Erica's nose is a little wider and shorter in shape. Her mouth is very different, the Danse, Jetta and Clash mouth is wider and their upper lip does not curve up to the nose like Erica's upper lip. The Danse, Jetta and Clash mouth is more like Darci's mouth. Also Erica does not have a cleft chin, the Danse, Jetta and Clash mold does.

The prototype head mold that has shown up as Rapture, 1988 Pizzazz and as a rejected Jem/Jerrica seem to be even closer to Erica's headmold. Those can be seen on the Unproduced pages.

The Glitter'n Gold Jem/Jerrica's doll box feels very similar to the Darci Boxes, even with the placement of the doll in the box is similar.

Even some of the fashion packaging is very similar.

Darci came with
a portfolio and "Magazine Covers".

Dana came with
a portfolio and "Magazine Covers".

Erica did not come with a portfolio and "Magazine Covers". But Regine of the Holograms (1988) would have come with a similar portfolio.

Some of the fashions had cut outs similar to the Magazine covers that came with Darci and Dana.
The Doll stands are also similar to Jem's. Dana and Erica have their names on the stand. I don't have a stand for Darci.
