I
do not have these magazine yet.
What is interesting the Spring article lists
Jem as having 2 male dolls in 1986,
along with the 7 females.

the Holograms picture on the 1986
Jem poster , but more! The poster's picture is cut
off to the left of Shana. If you look close at the Jem
post you can see Rio's shadow on the curtain.

Contemporary Doll Stars
The most impressive and
informative article in my opinion.
It is a 16 page, two part article with 18 pictures.
Almost everything in this article seems to be right
on the money, except for the Character Sketches which
list all the characters from the show as dolls...a typo,
I believe. (I think Glen knew which ones were and were
not dolls, but somehow marked them all as dolls, and
it got missed in editing)
This article starts with Jem's beginning
and goes all the way through her end. Sources for this
article are the Licensing Book, interviews with Al Corosi
VP for Hasbro at that time, and others.
"Jem - Beautiful
or Outrageous" part
1- Doll Reader April 1989
"Jem - Beautiful
or Outrageous" part
2 - Doll Reader May 1989
Highlights:
Corosi did say Jem started out as M, it was a male band
with a female lead singer, until Hasbro found out about
Barbie and the Rocker (females, only one male) which
Mattel was developing at the same time.
F.A.O. Schwarz played Jem videos in the stores.
Hollywood Jem Fashions where going to be developed like
Glitter'n Gold Fashions. (if original planned may have
be dropped later, closer to the end...nothing about
that Matchin' Medley Fashions in this article)
It does say Regine was going to have the same head mold
as Raya. (this does not seem correct since Regine had
a new face mold in the 1988
Pre-Toy Fair Catalog ) And list Astral as having
black hair, maybe Hasbro change it to blue and purple
closer to the time the 1988 PTF Catalog was shot.
