Jem was shipped all over
the world, excluding Spain and Mexico. All the dolls
and fashions seem to have been manufactured, assembled,
and packaged in China and/or Hong Kong. Many dolls (or
parts) were made in either China or Hong Kong and shipped
to the other country for packaging. These dolls have
packaging information that might say something like
1986 "Assembled in China, Packaged in Hong Kong."
or 1987 "Doll, doll stand, accessories made in
China, Cassette made in Hong Kong."
Besides the Made in China, Made in Hong Kong or any
variations of that the doll boxes also have an "H"
number, example: H-1, H22, H28, H29, H32, H44 these
numbers seem to indicate which factory the dolls were
made in and most dolls from each one have similar features.
H-1 - Rio only.
H22 - Misfits, Made in China Jem/Jerrica, Glitter'n
Gold Jem/Jerrica, Flip Side Fashions*, On Stage Fashions*,
Smashin' Fashions, and Rio Fashions.
H44 - Holograms Made in Hong Kong or China, Made
in Hong Kong Jem/Jerrica and Flash'n Sizzle Jem/Jerrica,
Flip Side Fashions*, On Stage Fashions*, Glitter'n
Gold Fashions.
You will also notice that a "HONG KONG"
Jem/Jerrica and Flash'n Sizzle Jem/Jerrica have
the same battery cover -- It looks like the Jem/Jerrica
HONG KONG is marked out and replace with China
for the Flash'n Sizzle Jem/Jerrica.
* both H22 or H44 are listed on first year Flip Side
Fashion boxes and first year On Stage cards. All second
year Flip Side Fashions seem to be H44 and all second
year On Stage Fashions seem to be H22
The cases the dolls were shipped in also have these
numbers as part of the "Date Code:" Besides
that number there is also 985, 986, 987 which seems
like September of that year. H-1 has a Date Code of
H-1986 or H-1987. So I believe the 9 is not September
but just the 9 in 1985, 1986, 1987. It seems all the
shipping cases have the 9, but dolls would have been
manufactured in more then one month of each year.
